(Dunya News) – The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan on Friday dismissed plea to disqualify Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan while disqualifying PTI Secretary General Jahangir Tareen while announcing its verdict on PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi’s petitions.

The verdict stirred the social media following which several hashtags including ‘Supreme Court’, ‘Imran Khan’, ‘IK and JKT’ and ‘Jahangir Tareen’ started trending in Pakistan.

After almost a year of hearings following the application regarding Imran Khan and Jahangir Tareen’s disqualification by Pakistan Muslim League N’s (PML N) Hanif Abbasi, the Supreme Court finally announced its verdict on Friday.

The petition filed by the PML N member had accused Imran Khan of obscuring his off-shore company, collecting international prohibited funds for his political organisation Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf (PTI), stating fabricated facts in his nomination papers, purchasing the Bani Gala property under his wife’s name, making illegal use of the tax amnesty scheme, and taking different stances in his affidavit.

While on the other hand, in the petition filed in November 2016 against Jahangir Tareen, Abbasi had accused him of not declaring his off-shore company. The second point raised in the application was of the incongruity in Tareen’s agricultural income and tax theft, whereas the third point indicted Tareen of insider trading.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had reserved its verdict on both cases on November 14. The cases were heard by a three-member bench chaired by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar himself.
